This deck was custom designed with the homeowner. They decided part of the deck should have privacy height railings for the dining area. They liked the look of the horizontal wood slats placed fairly close together for both privacy and a modern effect. They also wanted a staircase case with landings to break up the long straight staircase effect and also to provide some safety for a young family.
From a structural stand point all cut wood was treated with end cut sealer. All the cedar was pre-stained prior to installation, and all the decking was toe screwed to provide a long lasting attractive surface finish with no visible surface screws or nails. The sub structure was all built with pressure treated wood.
